Who? Crystal Pereira aka Crys aka PrincessCryssy

What? I am spending a year abroad in Viterbo, Italy with a program called School Year Abroad.

When? Junior year, August 2019 – May 2020

Where? currently Brooklyn, NYC –> soon to be Viterbo, ITA

Why? I’m really passionate about language learning, culture, art, and history. What better place to study all of these things besides Italy? One of the most beautiful and culturally rich places in the world, I thought Italy would be the best country for me to have my first study abroad experience in. I’ll be having a one of a kind, hands-on learning experience in a beautiful country, while studying topics that I’m super passionate about.

first few days

ciao tutti. i haven’t had much time to write because I’ve been busy getting acclimated to my new home. here’s a quick update:

  • I’ve made lots of friends and everyone in my SYA group is really nice
  • I’m learning more and more Italian daily because of how much I’m hearing, reading, and attempting to speak
  • italy is beautiful
  • I’ve met viterbese kids my age and they have all been nice
  • the food is AMAZING
  • I love my host family, they have been so welcoming and are trying very hard to make me feel like a part of the family
  • I’m really ready for school to start because I’m eager to get into a routine, and also to start officially studying Italian
  • tonight is la macchina di Santa Rosa and I am so excited to partake in this great tradition
